CAROLA CANELO

Attorney, University of Chile Law School (LLB); Master of Laws in International Legal Studies, American University, Washington College of Law (LLM), 2000. Recipient: "Pedro N. Montenegro Award", as Best Graduate Student of her promotion at the University of Chile Law School, 1994;  President of the Republic scholarship, 1999. Professor of Procedural Law at the University of Chile Law School.

Prior to creating her own law firm, she worked with Carey y Cía. Ltda. for the IP&IT Group, (2000-2004); with Piper, Marbury, Rudnick & Wolfe, LLP, for the Venture Capital Group, in Washington D.C. (1999-2000); with the Organization of American States, for the Environmental Law Group in Washington D.C. (1999);  with the Office of the Grants and Programs at American University, Washington College of Law, USA (1999-2000), and with Estudio Arturo Alessandri, on General Practice and Litigation (1995-1999).

Carola Canelo has broad expertise in assisting clients to protect their intellectual property rights and negotiating various types of agreements, including joint ventures, distribution agreements, franchising agreements, license agreements and technology transfer agreements, among other
transactions.  She has also experience in Litigation and upon regulatory matters, specially related to pharmaceutical products. She has also gained a reputable experience on Internet Law being invited by the Chilean Government to be a member of the
Governmental Digital Agenda .

She is author and co-author of various publications, among others: "The electronic document: procedural aspects" and "Legal evidence and the Electronic Signature Law", Internet Law Magazine of the University of Chile Law School, 2003 and 2004, respectively; "Getting the Deal Through: E-Commerce in 25 jurisdictions worldwide", Chilean Section, Law Business Research, 2003; and "Repertorio de Legislación y Jurisprudencia, Código de Procedimiento Civil", Editorial Jurídica de Chile, 1999.

Mrs. Canelo is member of the Chilean Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property.
